Mechanism of Action of Vermact 12
Ivermectin binds act by interfering with nerve and muscle function of helminths and insects. The drug binds to channels of glutamate-gated chloride that are common to invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. The binding of Ivermectin pushes these channels open, increasing the flow of chloride ions and hyper polarising the cell membranes. The affected tissue is paralysed by this hyper-polarisation, ultimately killing the invertebrate.
